Gemstone paintings, an art developed recently, has become famous
world over. These splendid paintings have achieved a high market
value in a very little span of time. As the name suggests, gemstone
paintings are made of precious and semi precious stones.
The royality of Rajasthan and it being the center for gemstone
business has resulted in a unusual art like this. Gemstone paintings
are made by the powder or grains of variously colored gemstones.
Once the figure is oulined, the precious and semi precious stones,
in crushed form are used to fill the figure. Like colors in other
types of paintings, here colored gemstones make the face or cloth
of the figure. Where white or pale colored stones are used for face
filling, brightly colored stones as blue, red or green are used
to show the dress or animals.
Beside the nine raginis (patterns), God and Goddess figures are
the subject of these painitings. Nowadays, some different patterns
are also found as per the demand. The usual patterns include women
figures with birds, mughal patterns and krishna lilas. Silver And
Gold is used to make the ornaments of the figures, which makes these
paintings all the more worth purchasing.
The art has flourished and is now not restricted to paintings only.
A number of products as pen holders, coasters, diaries and other
utility products are found these days. The gemstone paintings is
just a reflection of the royality and art in Rajasthan. Along with
being a part of neclaces, gemstones are now inculcated in daily
utility products also.
